Asia Cup 2022 kicked off on 27 August 2022 in the UAE. But, India started their campaign on 28 August by facing Pakistan. The stage was set for both teams as they were going to clash for the first time after the last T20 World Cup. Before the tournament, both teams dealt major blows. Jasprit Bumrah got ruled out of this event due to his back injury.

On the other hand, Pakistan missed the services of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Wasim Jr. They got ruled out of their knee and side strain injuries respectively. Hence, both teams put up a strong playing XI apart from them only. However, India made a surprise decision by picking veteran wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik over Rishabh Pant. But, Rohit won the toss and he asked Pakistan to bat first in this high-voltage match.

Speaking of the match, Pakistan batters found it tough to score runs against India. Indian bowlers were on point as Pakistan got bundled out for 147 runs in 19.5 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up four wickets. Along with him, Pandya took three wickets for 25 runs in four overs. Mohammad Rizwan was the highest run-scorer with his 43-run knock from 42 balls. He smashed only four boundaries and a single six, at a strike rate of 102.38.

In response, Indian batters struggled also. Naseem Shah made a fantastic debut for Pakistan by picking up the quick wicket of KL Rahul. Virat Kohli looked in some touch as he scored 35 runs off 34 balls. But, Ravindra Jadeja’s 35 runs and Hardik Pandya’s 33* runs ensured India’s victory with two balls to spare. They stitched a solid partnership of 52 runs during the chase. Hardik Pandya won the player of the match award for his overall performance with both bat and the ball.
