India begin their Asia Cup 2023 campaign on Saturday. The first game for the men in blue is against arch-rivals Pakistan. The 7 time Asia Cup champions led by Rohit Sharma will likely face Pakistan twice during the Asia Cup.
India had seen Pakistan beat Nepal by a huge margin of 238 runs in the 1st game of the tournament. The focus of the world will be on one man in particular. Former India skipper Virat Kohli has been in tremendous form with the bat during 2023. The 34-year-old has always found an extra inch whenever he plays against Pakistan.
Just before the game on Saturday, both the teams got down to practice. There were a lot of feel-good moments during the session. Members of both sides were seen interacting with each other.
Haris Rauf has his say on Virat Kohli
Pakistani pacer, Haris Rauf was all smiles when he happened to meet Virat Kohli. The right-arm pacer hugged the former Indian skipper and had a warm chat. Haris Rauf later remarked to Virat Kohli “Wherever I go, there is always Kohli, Kohli going on”
The two players went into battle during the 2022 T20 World Cup game in Melbourne. Virat Kohli hit Haris Rauf for two back-to-back sixes as India needed 28 off 8 balls. One of the sixes was straight down the ground with Kohli going on to his back foot.
India won that contest of the last ball of the game in what was an emotionally charged encounter. Virat Kohli was not out on 82 as he single-handedly delivered India a memorable win. Kohli’s innings were called the best by many of the experts and fans as the teary-eyed former India skipper took in the plaudits.
The game on Saturday will be a dress rehearsal with the two teams set to meet again in a few weeks. India and Pakistan will lock horns during the 2023 ODI World Cup on 14th October. The game is set to be played at Ahmedabad and millions of fans from both sides will be excited for the contest.
Speaking about the game on Saturday, there is a chance rain could play spoilsport. While the early morning conditions were clear, and there was lots of cloud cover. The conditions were humid and murky, this could play as a dampener for many fans ahead of the big game.
