Kolkata Knight Riders superstar Andre Russell is known for his power-hitting in white ball cricket. The Jamaican is now playing in Major League Cricket (MLC). He has a fantastic track record in MLC. Andre Russell represents Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) in MLC. While playing for the LAKR, he hit the longest six in the tournament so far against San Francisco Unicorns on Wednesday.

He surpassed his countryman Dwayne Bravo, who had previously hit a 106-meter six for the Texas Super Kings (TSK). LAKR has not been in great form as they lost their third match in a row with Sunil Narine’s captaincy has come under scrutiny. In their last match against the MI New York, they were bowled out for just 50 runs while chasing a target of 155.

Mathew Wade shines for Unicorns

The Unicorns won the toss and elected to bat first. In the last seven games of the tournament, they always won the match whenever they batted first.  Meanwhile, San Francisco had a strong start while batting, with Australian wicket-keeper Matthew Wade and New Zealand’s opener Finn Allen combining for 88 runs. The Kiwi opener scored 20 before getting caught behind off skipper Sunil Narine by US international Jaskaran Malhotra. Marcus Stoinis’ quick fire of 37 off 18 kept his hot form going. Wade scored 78 runs off 41 balls. Apart from that, former New Zealand international cricketer Corey Anderson scored 39 runs off 20 balls helping the squad score 212/7, it is the highest team total in the tournament so far.

In reply coming out to bat LAKR had a good start with opener Jason Roy scoring 45 runs off 21 balls. Former Indian U-19 captain Unmukt Chand scored only 20 runs before falling to Chaitanya Bishnoi. Nitish Kumar scored a decent 31 runs but his stay was cut short by Corey Anderson. The men in purple failed again to win the game. Despite Narine and Russell’s best efforts, the squad was defeated by 21 runs.

Sunil Narine after the match stated, “We started well with the ball but then we let it slipped away. Chasing 200 on this wicket, we needed a good start and we got it. Then, in the middle overs, we let it slip. Maybe 170-180 was par and it would have given us a better chance to chase. The wickets in the middle strangled us a little. (On trying to reset before the next leg) You still have to try to reset. You have to come up with strategies that will hopefully work. It is a good bunch of guys and it is about getting it right. When that happens, you will see the quality in our team.”
