Thomas Tuchel decides to leave Bayern Munich at end of season
Thomas Tuchel had tough times in Bayern Munich as a manager. He took the job for Bayern Munich after Julian Naglesmann left the prestigious club. Under Tuchel the German Giant Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga title. They beat Koln on the final league day by 2-1. Thanks to Borussia Dortmund to 2-2 draw with Mainz.
Bayern currently lost in their last Champions League match against Italian club Lazio by 1-0 in the Round of 16. One of their shocking defeats came against third-division club Saarbrucken in DfB Pokal, and they are once again out of the tournament. In last season they have been thrashed by 4-1 on aggregate against Manchester City. A club like Freiberg shocked them in their home match by 2-1 in the quarterfinals of DfB Pokal. Bayern have played 44 matches under Tuchel. they won 28 matches and lost 11. Which is not a great sign for a club like Bayern Munich.
What exactly happened with Tuchel?
Club Bayern Munich and Thomas Tuchel have reached an agreement to part ways at the end of the season. Bayern Munich management is ready to hire a new manager for them. Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso and legendary coach of Liverpool Jurgen Klopp are already linked with the club.
Jan-Christian Dreesen, The CEO of Bayern Munich club confirmed that Thomas Tuchel will be stepping down as coach in an official statement on Wednesday. He is confident that after the defeat of the first league against Lazio, they can still qualify for the quarters.
He said “In an open, good conversation we came to the decision to mutually end our collaboration in the summer. Our goal is to carry out a sporting realignment with a new coach for the 2024/25 season. Until then, every individual in the club is expressly challenged to achieve the maximum possible in the Champions League and the Bundesliga. I also explicitly hold the team responsible. Especially in the Champions League, we are convinced that after the 0-1 defeat in the first leg at Lazio Rome, we will advance to the quarterfinals in the second leg in our fully occupied Allianz Arena with our fans behind us.”
Bayern Munich will play their next match against Leipzig on February 23 at home. Their next Champions League campaign will start on March 6 against Lazio.
