Indian players are preparing to face England in a one-off Test match from 1 July 2022 as the match is rescheduled which got canceled last year due to the Covid-19 outbreak. In the series, India is already leading by 2-1 as they are on the verge of winning a historic Test series on the English soil.

However, India dealt with a major blow as their top spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin was diagnosed with Covid-19. As a result, he missed the flight to England as he will go under the general protocols along with his isolation period. As per reports, he may get back into the team before the Test match and he will only miss the practice match against Leicestershire. Despite his chances of a comeback, there are three players who can be replaced in the squad.

Jayant Yadav is the front-runner in this race for his experience in this longer format. Till now, he played six Test matches where he picked up 16 wickets in 12 innings. His addition can bring more solidity into the batting also as he scored 248 runs at an average of 31 in nine innings only, batting down the order. In his small career, he had a hundred and a fifty also.

He is also a right-arm off-spinner who will be a like-to-like replacement for Ashwin. Even, as per reports of Cricbuzz, he is already being kept as the replacement after the news of Ashwin came out.
