Three reasons why Chennai failed to win Indian T20 League 2022
Chennai came into the Indian T20 League 2022 as the defending champions. The fans were expecting to see a similar performance from the team in their run to defend the title for the second time in the history of the tournament. But much to everybody’s disappointment Chennai had a dismal run in the tournament and finished second last in the table just ahead of Mumbai.
There were some reasons pointing in the eye for the failure of the team in the tournament. Here we will try to find the prime reasons for Chennai’s terrible run in the Indian T20 League 2022.
1. Absence of Deepak Chahar: Deepak Chahar played a very important role in Chennai’s title-winning run in the Indian T20 League 2021. His bowling efforts in the powerplays were one of the prime reasons why Chennai was performing consistently in the last few seasons.
Speaking about his performance in the 14th edition of the Indian T20 League 2021, Chahar picked up 14 wickets in 15 matches at an average of 32.21. The majority of these wickets came in the powerplays giving a jolt to the opposition in the very beginning.
While Chennai was expecting a similar performance from Chahar in the 15th edition of the tournament, an injury ruling the player out was a major shock to the team’s plans. Chennai struggled to find a proper replacement for the team at the beginning and by the time Mukesh Choudhary filled his shoes to some extent, it was too late for the team.
