Three reasons why Chennai failed to win Indian T20 League 2022
Another main reason for Chennai not being able to perform up to the expectations was the marred performance of their prime all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
2. Jadeja weighed down by captaincy: Just ahead of the tournament Chennai announced that their skipper MS Dhoni has stepped down as the captain of the team and the responsibilities were handed over to Ravindra Jadeja.
In the 8 matches that Jadeja led the team, Chennai lost six matches and were virtually ousted from the tournament. The responsibility also affected Jaeja’s performance. After the first 8 matches, he was relieved of the responsibilities and after two more matches, he was ruled out due to injury. But in the 10 matches that he played, he was way off his original self. He was just able to pick up 5 wickets at an average of 49.60 with the ball and with the bat he just scored 116 runs at an average of 19.33. The off-form of their most important all-rounder was a prime reason Chennai was not able to make it to the playoffs this season.
