Mathews became the first ever batter to be adjudged ‘Timed out‘ in international cricket. As Mathews took a lot of time to face his first ball in the middle, Shakib appealed to the on-field umpire. Marais Erasmus gave it out, as it was not in favour of the laws. It is interesting to note that Mathews got his helmet’s strap damaged as soon as he entered the middle.

Instead of bringing it to the attention of the umpires or the opposition captain, Mathews straightly called his teammates in the dressing room for a change in helmet. Meanwhile, the umpire gave him out, as he could not face the ball in the first 2 minutes of his entry in the middle. Since then, a lot of discussions have been happening among the fans regarding the mode of dismissal.
