Top 5 unsold players who can be selected as a backup for injury replacement
As the Indian Premier League auction ended a month ago, it was a happy as well as sad for a lot of players. While some players earned huge amounts of money, some players went unsold. There was a list of 62 players who went unsold during the IPL auction. Out of these players, there were a lot of young and talented players who deserved a place in the league. This IPL created history as Mitchell Starc and Patt Cummins were sold for a whopping amount of INR 24.75 crore and 20.50 crore each. With this, they became the most expensive players in IPL.
Before them, English all-rounder Sam Curran was the most expensive player with INR 18.50 crore. Punjab Kings got Curran on their team in 2023. However, he couldn’t justify the amount spent on him through his performance. Even India’s star player Yuvraj Singh was brought by the Dehli Daredevils in 2015. However, his performance wasn’t impressive either. As the IPL season is long, players tend to get injured mid-season. Thus, teams keep alternative players who can come in to fill in their places. Thus, there are still chances that some of the unsold players might make a comeback in the IPL.
Look at the unsold players who can be selected as a backup for injury replacement.
1. Phil Salt
England team’s opening batter, Phil Salt is one of the most dangerous T20 batters. He came into the auction at a base price of INR 1.5 crores. However, no team showed interest in him. Hours later, Salt played a beautiful innings of 119 from 57 balls against West Indies in the fourth T20I series. In IPL 2023, Salt played nine matches and scored 218 runs with a strike rate of 163.91. Thus, he’ll be hoping to join in the tournament as an injury replacement.
