ODI Cricket in its 52 years of existence has seen many contest which has gone down the wire. There have been many games in this format of the game which has also seen some last-ball thrilling matches being played.

Then there have been a few occasions where one team is completely outplayed by their opposition. Australia showed its complete dominance with a massive 309-run win over the Netherlands in ODI World Cup 2023.

Here are the five occasions when teams recorded wins by massive margins in terms of runs in ODI Cricket.

5. Australia beat Afghanistan by 275 runs – Perth -2015

Batting first Australia scored 417 runs for the loss of 6 wickets from their 50 overs. David Warner smashed 178 runs from a mere 133 balls with 19 fours and 5 sixes. Steve Smith with 95 and Glenn Maxwell with 88 helped Australia reach the massive score. Mitchell Johnson picked 4/22 as Afghanistan were bowled out for 142 as Nawroz Mangal top-scored with 33.

4. New Zealand beat Ireland by 290 runs – Aberdeen -2008

Batting first New Zealand found themselves scoring 402 runs for the loss of 2 wickets from their 50 overs. Brendon McCullum top scored with 166 runs while James Marshall scored 161 runs. Tim Southee and Michael Mason picked 3 wickets as Ireland were bowled out for 112 runs with Gary Wilson top scoring with 21.

3. Zimbabwe beat the United States of America by 304 runs – Harare -2023

Batting first Zimbabwe scored 408 runs for the loss of 6 wickets from their 50 overs. Sean Williams top-scored with 174 runs from 101 balls with 21 fours and 5 sixes. Chasing 409 to win, USA were all out for 104 with Abishek Paradkar scoring 24 runs which was the highest by the visitors.

2. Australia beat the Netherlands by 309 runs – New Delhi 2023

Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bat first and saw his team post a massive 399 for 8 on the board. David Warner scored 104 while Steve Smith (71) and Marnus Labuschagne (62) scored half-centuries. Glenn Maxwell then flattened the bowling attack with a century in just 40 balls to record the fastest ton in ODI World Cups.

1. India beat Sri Lanka by 317 runs – Kerala – 2023

Opting to bat first, India scored 390 runs on the board for the loss of 5 wickets. Virat Kohli top scored with 166 not out from just 110 balls with 13 fours and 8 sixes. Shubman Gill contributed 116 runs from just 97 balls as India dominated the Sri Lankan bowling. In reply, the Lankans were bowled out for 73 thanks to Mohammad Siraj’s 4/32 from his 10 overs to record the highest margin of win in ODI Cricket.
