Ahead of the second Test of the ongoing Broder-Gavaskar Trophy, India became the number side across formats. The Apex Council updated the World Rankings of the teams across formats. The Men In Blue have been the top side in the white-ball formats in the last few months. However, since early last year, they have been in the number two spot in the longest format of the game.

Now, with only two days left at the start of the second Test between India and Australia in Delhi, the home team became the top Test side. In the first Test, the Rohit Sharma-led side thrashed the Aussies by innings and 132 runs inside three days. Meanwhile, the fans have taken an opportunity as India has become World’s Number One Test for probably the first time.

India would look to take an unassailable lead in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023

Meanwhile, after becoming the World’s Number One Test side, they would look to take an unassailable after the Delhi Test starting on Feb 17. They are currently leading the four-match Test series by 1-0. Not to forget, since the 2014-15 BGT won by Australia at home, they are yet to win the series since 2017.

Six years ago, India beat Australia in the four-match series by 2-1 after battling hard with the Kangaroos. In the 2018-19 series, the then-Virat Kohli-led side beat the then-Tim Paine-led side by 2-1. Even though the scoreline suggests some fight, the Indians were all over the Aussies in the series. Two years later, India won by the same scoreline despite missing key players during the series. Eventually, it was voted as the Ultimate Test series across eras, beating the 1999 Test series between India and Pakistan.
