One of the finest young batters in international cricket, Shubman Gill’s status was solidified during the 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Given that Gill had been playing outstandingly for India before the IPL, he was already the centre of attention heading into the cash-rich league.

The 23-year-old player, who was in a class of his own, earned the IPL orange hat after amassing 890 runs in 17 games and striking three hundred. In addition, Gill broke Jos Buttler’s record for the second-most runs scored in a single IPL season, trailing only Virat Kohli (973 runs in 2016). One of the main reasons his side did so well in the IPL 2023 was the eye-catching opening, but Hardik Pandya and company fell to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final game in Ahmedabad.

WTC Final to take place on June 7

Notably, the renowned Indian opener has Punjabi and Hindi dubbings for the Indian Spider-Man personality Pavitr Prabhakar. Gill was recently questioned about what he would do if given Spider-Man’s abilities. When asked what he would do if he were Spider-Man for a day, the cricket player originally said that he would want to swing over the buildings like Spider-Man. However, when asked what he would do with the spider sense, he responded that he would want to use it to catch balls in the field.

“I would want to be Spiderman in the World Cup Final because I would have spider sense and I would be able to catch balls,”  Gill was quoted as saying in Pinkvilla.

The fearless opener will, however, play a crucial role for India in both the forthcoming WTC final and the 50-over World Cup that will be held in India later this year. The youngster from Punjab has already demonstrated a lot of potential in his short international career so far, and the cricketing analysts rightfully regard him highly. Along with the rest of the team, he has already arrived in the United Kingdom. On June 7, India and Australia will play in the World Test Championship final at The Oval, in Southampton.
