MS Dhoni is arguably one of the most impactful cricketers. Even when he’s not playing, he has gone on to influence the lives of several individuals. Similarly, a lot of youngsters have taken his advice, and went on to make it large.

Rahul Tripathi happens to be one of them, as the legend has always been like a mentor figure to him. It is to be noted that the top-order batter played alongside Dhoni at Pune in 2017. Thus, Tripathi went on to speak about how he used to interact with the keeper-batter.

While speaking to News18, the batter revealed that even after he left Pune, he was always in touch with the Chennai captain. He then recalled a moment during the final of the Indian T20 league in 2021, where his then team Kolkata lost to Chennai. Tripathi spoke about how the legendary Indian cricketer consoled him after he failed in the final.

“I had a hamstring injury and therefore, I came in lower down the order. I couldn’t score runs, I was really struggling to run between the wickets. After I got out, Mahi bhai tapped on my back and said: “Koi nai, aj tumhara day nahi tha, But tune hundred per cent try kiya”(It wasn’t your day, but you gave your hundred per cent). I was feeling very down since we lost the final, but Mahi bhai came after the game also and spoke to me for a minute or so,” said Rahul Tripathi.

The 30-year-old unfortunately suffered a hamstring injury during the final game and thus, had to bat down the order. At the end, Chennai defeated Kolkata by 27 runs to lift their fourth title. In the meanwhile, Tripathi also revealed what his father always use to tell him and how he should always focus on giving his 100 per cent.

“My dad always tells me that ITL is a great opportunity to play for India. He always told me wherever you go, whichever team you play for, money is secondary,” he said. The audacious batter was recently purchased by Hyderabad for a whopping amount of INR 8.5 crore.
