Twitter reactions: Kuldeep, Warner power Delhi to comfortable win over Kolkata
Delhi took on Kolkata in the 19th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The encounter turned out to be a high-scoring affair as the batters from both the teams enjoyed the batting-friendly conditions. A total of 386 runs were scored in the match.
Kolkata won the toss and much to everybody’s expectation decided to field first. Delhi began their innings on an aggressive note as Prithvi Shaw shifted to fifth gear very early. David Warner on the opposite end decided to play more with controlled aggression. Shaw’s blazing innings got them to a fiery start, and Delhi was scoring at a run rate of over 10 from the very beginning. Shaw was dismissed in the 9th over of the innings after he scored 51 runs off 29 deliveries. Delhi had 93 runs on the board at this stage.
The initial onslaught from Prithvi Shaw gave Delhi great momentum and they just rode on that. While David Warner continued steadily at one end the other batters were tasked with the job of going after the bowlers. They lost a bit of momentum as they lost 4 wickets for just 18 runs and were 166 for 5 in the 17th over. The last of these four wickets was David Warner who scored 61 runs off 45 deliveries. He hit 6 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. But with the help of cameos from Axar Patel (22 off 14) and Shardul Thakur (29 off 11), Delhi posted a mammoth total of 215 runs in their 20 overs. Sunil Narine was the pick of the bowlers for Kolkata picking up 2 wickets from his 4 overs conceding just 21 runs.
Kolkata’s response to the huge target was shaky to start with. They were 2 down for 43 runs in the powerplays. Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana joined hands at this stage and put up a partnership of 69 runs . Nitish Rana was dismissed for 30 off 20 deliveries in the 12th over by Lalit Yadav. Andre Russell appeared on the scene with Kolkata’s required rate touching the 13 runs per over mark. Kuldeep Yadav put his ex-team Kolkata under further pressure as he dismissed Shreyas Iyer on the 5th delivery of the 13th over. Iyer scored a brilliant 54 off 33 deliveries. With Shreyas Iyer back in the hut, Kolkata required an unreal show from either Russell or Pat Cummins to pull off a win in the match. Sam Billings was dismissed in the 15th over and the dangerous duo of Cummins and Russell was in the crease. Kolkata required 79 runs from the last 30 deliveries, the required run rate was 15.8. It definitely needed something unreal from the duo in the middle to win the match for the men in purple.
But to the disappointment of the Kolkata fans, Cummins could not repeat his antics of the last match as Kuldeep Yadav dismissed him for 4 runs off 3 deliveries. Everything rested on Russell at this stage for Kolkata. But Kuldeep Yadav had different ideas. He picked up two more wickets following Pat Cummins in the 16th over. With Narine and Umesh Yadav’s wicket in the over he reduced Kolkata t0 143 for 8 in the 16th over. He finished his spell with 4 wickets for 35 runs from his 4 overs. The remainder of the equation proved too much even for Andre Russell as the Delhi bowlers executed the death overs with near perfection. Russell scored 24 runs off 21 deliveries in a most ‘un-Russell’ like knock, as Delhi won the match by44 runs dismissing the whole team of Kolkata for 171 runs.

Apart from those talented first timers in this ipl, the story for me is Kuldeep Yadav’s return. He is really good with his pace and spin variations. #DelhiCapitals
