Unwanted Scenes In Duleep Trophy As Chintan Gaja Hits Venkatesh Iyer, Forcing Him To Retire Hurt
The first semi-final of this year’s Duleep Trophy is going on between West Zone and Central Zone in Coimbatore. However, on day two, West Zone took a lead of 129 runs. But, an unwanted incident occurred as Venkatesh Iyer got hit by a throw from West Zone’s Chintan Gaja.
Venkatesh Iyer is playing for the Central Zone. He was batting for them in reply to West Zone’s 257 runs in their first innings. But, during the innings, Chintan Gaja’s throw hit him and it forced him to retire hurt from the match. The images went viral all over the internet as it was quite unacceptable behaviour from Gaja.

Speaking of the incident, it happened during the second session of the second day’s play. As per journalist S Dipak Ragav, Iyer hit Gaja for a six and the bowler did not like that at all. Iyer came down the track and smashed him out of the park over the log-off region.
However, in the very next ball, Venkatesh Iyer defended. Then, Gaja picked the ball up and threw it at the batsman. As per reports, the ball hit right below the helmet on his neck. Venkatesh was in full pain and the ambulance rushed there to pick him up. But, the good news was that Iyer managed to walk off the field all by himself. Iyer also came back. Finally, he lost his wicket by scoring 14 runs off 9 balls, including two fours and one six.
Speaking of the match, Central Zone won the toss and they opted to bowl first. West Zone got bundled out for 257 runs. Prithvi Shaw and Rahul Tripathi scored 60 and 67 runs respectively. In reply, Central Zone got bundled out for 128 runs only. Thus, West Zone gained a lead of 129 runs while going into the second innings. Karan Sharma was the highest scorer with 34 runs off 64 balls, including two sixes and two fours.
