Upcoming Nintendo Switch device more of iteration rather than revolution?

Nintendo Switch, for the past few years, reigned in the handheld console gaming market. Switch is still the mostly sold modern handheld gaming console. The company also releases multiple exclusive games every year to keep up with community advancements and entertainment.

However, in the past year, rivals have surfaced that have the potential to dethrone Switch going forward in the future. While many companies have released their handheld consoles with much better specifications, the price is often much higher.

Steam Deck provides some best-looking specifications

Enters Steam Deck in 2022 and provides some of the best-looking specifications. Starting at a lower price than Switch, the Steam Deck sold like hotcakes, so much so that people had to wait months to get their hands on it.

With rivals catching up, fans are expecting Nintendo to announce a new Switch device this year. CEO of Kantan Games, Serkan Toto, did say there is a good chance for a ‘Pro’ model this year. However, he said that it is more likely to be an iteration rather than a revolution.

“The next system is also likely to be an iteration rather than a revolution. Nintendo might add some bells and whistles to the device, but it will be similar to the current Switch. And because there is Pokémon, and Pokémon is associated with handheld gaming, there is no way on earth Nintendo will drop the portability feature for their next big thing,” Toto said in his statement.

Furthermore, he also pressed on the topic of making a distinction between the old Switch and the upcoming model. This is to avoid confusion in the market. Even if the changes are not significant, the company needs to make it clear.

As per rumours regarding Switch 2, fans are expecting some major enhancements. This includes a powerful processor and DDR5 RAM. There are also rumours of tech like Nvidia DLSS going around, however, nothing is confirmed unless revealed by Nintendo.
