Australia Test opener, Usman Khawaja and renowned Indian Cricket Writer, Bharat Sundaresan has spoken about racism in Australian cricket. Talking about Khawaja, he made his international debut in the New Year’s Ashes Test in 2011. With him being in an out of the team before the 2021-22 Ashes, the left-hander played 55 Tests. Since scoring a few hundreds in the last Ashes and in Pakistan, the Islamabad-bor player has cemented his place.

On the other hand, Bharat Sundaresan is one of the renowned cricket writers born in India but is working in Australia. However, recently, he took to Twitter and wrote about how badly he has been treated by security personnel at the cricket ground Down Under. He started by mentioning that he has been working in the country for the last five years. Sundaresan added that he still has to prove his professional credentials.

“To all you wonderful security personnel at cricket venues around Australia. This is my fifth summer here. At some point you have to stop jumping on me, questioning my credentials, talking down to me & asking each other if “we can trust him?”. Like it or not, I’m here to stay,” Bharat Sundaresan wrote on Twitter.

I was asked if I was Australian team despite wearing the team kit: Usman Khawaja

In reply, the left-hander said that he has gotten used to the ‘pathetic behavior’. He recalled an incident in which he was stopped and checked out thrice on the same day. Notably, he was entering the Australia team hotel with his teammates.

“You get use to it. I got stopped 3 times last year at our hotel, while in Australian Kit and asked if I was with the Australian Cricket team… #youdontlookaustralian #orsotheysay,” Khawaja replied on Sundaresan’s tweet.
