‘Virat has to give up his ego’ – Kapil Dev urges Virat Kohli to mentor new captain
World Cup winning captain Kapil dev has made a shocking statement on Virat Kohli after the Indian skipper stepped down as Test captain. Over the last five months, Virat Kohli has given up captaincy from all formats. He stepped down as India T20I captain and was later removed as ODI captain. Recently, he relinquished Test captaincy as well.
Kapil Said he welcomes Virat Kohli’s decision to give up Test captaincy as he can now play freely as a batter. “I welcome Virat’s decision to quit the Test captaincy. He was going through a rough time ever since he gave up the T20 captaincy. He has looked tense in recent times, appearing to be under a lot of pressure. So giving up the captaincy was an option in order to play freely. He opted for that,” said Kapil as quoted by Sports Tiger
“He is a mature man. I am sure he must have thought hard before taking this important decision. Maybe, he wasn’t enjoying the captaincy. We have to support him and wish him luck,” Kapil further stated.
Kapil added that Virat Kohli will be playing under a young captain thus he should give up his ego and mentor the new captain and players. “Even Sunil Gavaskar played under me. I played under K Srikkanth and Azharuddin. I had no ego. Virat will have to give up his ego and play under a young cricketer. This will help him and Indian cricket,” concluded Kapil.
