Virat Kohli reveals Anushka Sharma’s reaction to AB de Villiers’ retirement
AB de Villiers has been synonymous with the Bangalore-based franchise. Over the years, he has been one of their best match-winners. As a matter of fact, he shared a great bond with their former captain Virat Kohli.
While the 33-year-old continues to play for the franchise, ABD announced his retirement from all formats of the game earlier in 2021. Although he had retired from international cricket in 2018, he continued to play for the 2016-finalists till 2021. Thus, his decision came as an absolute shocker to all the fans.
Moreover, it came as a huge loss for Bangalore as he has been an integral part of the franchise since 2011. Even Kohli was surprised by the same, as he recently drew light on what transpired when he got to know about the South African’s decision to call it a day. He also revealed his wife Anushka Sharma’s reaction to the same.
While speaking in a video posted by the Bangalore-based franchise, he said that he was driving back home after the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 when ABD sent him a voice note of his decision to retire from all forms of cricket. He further stated that Anushka was with him at that time, and she was surprised by the legend’s decision as well. Kohli also revealed that his wife told him that she saw this coming from the 2021 edition itself.
“It is very strange. I clearly remember when he decided to finally call it a day. He sent me a voice note. And I still remember we were coming back from the World Cup and were driving. I read the voice note, Anushka was with me and I just looked at her. She said ‘what’ and I showed her the voice note. After seeing it the first thing she told me was ‘Don’t tell me’. I could sense this from last ITL,” said Virat Kohli.
As far as “Mr 360°” is concerned, then it is safe to say that he is arguably one of the greatest batters in the history of the league. In the 184 games in which he has played, he has scored 5162 runs at an average of 39.71. This includes 40 half-centuries, as well as three centuries.
