Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli has told the Indian Cricket Board his desire to skip the ODI series in South Africa. The 35-year-old was recently the top scorer during the ODI World Cup 2023 with over 700 runs.

A source from the Indian Cricket Board told the media “He (Kohli) has informed the Indian Cricket Board and selectors that he needs a break from white-ball cricket and he will get back to them about when he wants to play white-ball cricket next. At the moment he has informed us that he will be playing red-ball cricket, which means he is available for selection for the two Test matches in South Africa”

Virat Kohli is currently in London enjoying some time away after the ODI World Cup 2023 loss. There are also reports that the former India skipper is set to become a father again. Meanwhile, there is no clarity on the white ball future of Rohit Sharma as the Indian Cricket Board is set to sit down with the national skipper.

There are calls for Rohit Sharma to reconsider his T20I future with the T20 World Cup coming up next year. Rahul Dravid too has been asked to stick till the 2024 mega event in the Caribbean and the United States of America.

VVS Laxman is currently coaching the Indian team in the five-match T20 series against Australia. Glenn Maxwell’s masterful century helped Australia win the game in a last-ball thriller as they chased down the 223-run target set by India.
