Virat Kohli should bat at number four in the Asia Cup 2022, says Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria

Despite not having scored a single century for more than 2 years, Virat Kohli continues to grab headlines in the cricketing world. Although, he has been attracting headlines for the criticisms more than the praise. Virat Kohli has been enduring a lean patch in his cricketing career and has currently taken a break from International cricket. Despite a lot of critics questioning his place in the Indian team, he has made it into the Asia Cup 2022 squad.

Amidst that, former Pakistan spinner, Danish Kaneria has suggested that the former Indian captain should bat at number four in the Asia Cup 2022. Kaneria believes that Suryakumar Yadav, who is currently in the form of his life, is best suited to bat at three, followed by Virat Kohli at number four.

The 41-year-old reckons that Virat Kohli would need some time to settle in and thus should bat at number four in the batting order.

“Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will open. But I would put Suryakumar Yadav at No. 3 and then followed by Kohli. Kohli will need some time to settle-in and play carefully so I think he should bat at No.4,” Danish Kaneria said in his YouTube video.

Suryakumar Yadav has been in the form of his life. He has played some sensational knocks in T20 internationals in the recent past. In the recently concluded T20I series against West Indies, the Mumbai batter opened the innings with Rohit Sharma for India. However, with KL Rahul coming back, Yadav is likely to come back in the middle-order for the Asia Cup.

Danish Kaneria also believes that KL Rahul shouldn’t have been included in the squad straightaway as he has just recovered from an injury.

“When a player returns from injury, you should not immediately put him in the starting lineup. Given his importance to India in the T20 World Cup, he should have been given some time to adjust to the team,” Danish Kaneria stated on his YouTube channel.

India are scheduled to play their first game in the Asia Cup 2022 against Pakistan on 28^th August 2022.
