Virat Kohli is currently busy playing for India in the ongoing T20I series against England. Even though he was given rest in the first match of the series, he is scheduled to play the rest of the two matches on 9 and 10 July 2022 respectively. Since 2019, he is not being able to score runs at his level best as he used to do for India.

Regarding that, former Indian captain Kapil Dev raised a question to Indian selectors to drop him from the next matches if he still fails to score big. However, Kapil Dev’s comments did not go well for Kohli’s childhood coach, Rajkumar Sharma as he came out saying that he does not support his comments at all.

“I do not think the board will make a decision to have him sit on the bench,” – Rajkumar Sharma

Speaking to ANI, Rajkumar Sharma said that he does not support Kapil Dev’s statement as it will be difficult for the Indian Cricket Board to bench Kohli after what he did for so many years for the country. He said: “I do not support the statements made by Kapil Dev on Virat Kohli. Nothing big happened with Virat that such kind of statement has been issued. Why is there so much hurry with Virat, he has done so well for the country. Making 70 international centuries is not a small thing. I do not think the board will make a decision to have him sit on the bench,”

Speaking about Kapil Dev’s statement, he said that if the world’s number two bowler, Ravichandran Ashwin got dropped in the Edgbaston Test, then why not Virat Kohli can be dropped if he is not performing at his best. He also added that if he does not get selected for the upcoming three-match ODI series against West Indies, then that should be considered as a “dropped” rather than a “rest”.

However, as per reports, the Indian Cricket Board is most likely to include all the senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant in the squad, to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup later this year in Australia.
