After the failure in the T20 World Cup last year, India will look to perform strongly in this year’s mega-event later this year in Australia. It will be Rohit Sharma’s first assignment to win a major tournament for his country after being appointed as the captain of India.

However, it has been observed that Rohit Sharma had suffered some fitness issues recently as he missed or took a rest in many series. Even now, ahead of this rescheduled Test match, he had tested Covid-19 positive and he is most likely to miss the Test match also. Hence, former Indian batter Virender Sehwag came up with a suggestion for the Team ahead of this year’s World Cup.

“It would allow Rohit to manage his workload and mental fatigue” – Virender Sehwag

Speaking to PTI in an interview, Virender Sehwag told that Rohit Sharma should be ripped off the T20 captaincy for managing his workload in a better way. He said: “If the Indian team management has someone else in mind as captain in the T20 format, then I think, Rohit (Sharma) could be relieved and the following can be taken into consideration going forward,”

He also said that if the Indian Team Management wants to go forward with the same policy, then Rohit is the best man to do it only. “One, that would allow Rohit to manage his workload and mental fatigue, given his age. Two, once someone new is appointed as captain in T20s, it would also allow Rohit to take breaks and rejuvenate himself to lead India in both Tests and ODIs. If the Indian think-tank still wants to pursue the same policy, which is to let one man lead India in all the three formats, then I still believe Rohit Sharma is the best man for it,” He added.

Speaking about the options India has ahead of World Cup, Sehwag said that many options can spoil India’s chances. “India has options aplenty when it comes to hard hitters in T20s. However, I would vouch for Rohit, Ishan Kishan, and KL Rahul as the top three batters for the World Cup in Australia. The right-hand and left-hand combination of Rohit and Kishan, or for that matter, Ishan and Rahul, could be quite interesting for the World T20,” Sehwag concluded.
