Watch: Ashish Nehra’s ‘amazing’ reply to host’s ‘we wanted to see Ashish’s boy’ remark
Former India left-arm pacer Ashish Nehra is the current head coach of the Gujarat team in the Indian T20 League. One of his pupils in the team, Shubman Gill was anticipated to play in the ongoing second T20I between New Zealand and India. However, the right-hander missed out as the Men In Blue have opted to open with the likes of Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant.
Meanwhile, right after the toss, the broadcaster’s host, Gaurav Kapoor said ‘Thing is we wanted to see Ashish’s boy, Shubman Gill make his debut today.” In reply, Nehra said “He’s India’s boy.”Kapoor continued with a witty response, “He’s your boy. He’s played more T20s for you than he has played for India” Nehra opined, “He will play for India soon.”

Taking about the game, the Blackcaps won the toss and elected to bowl first. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson asserted that the pitch and weather forecast made him choose to bowl first. At the time of writing, Pant could only score six runs off 13 balls before his painful innings ended in the last over of the powerplay. Both Kishan and Pant found boundaries but played dot balls to make it easy for the opposition.
At the time of writing, it was notified that the game will resume after the forced rain break. Before the forced break, the visitors had scored 50/1 in 6.4 overs with Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav at the crease. The former has scored 28 off 22 balls and would be hungry to score big runs as he missed out on the 20-20 World Cup 2022. On the other hand, Yadav, the third-highest run-getter in the tournament, would like to continue creating problems for bowlers.
