In the sixth game of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2022-23, last season’s finalists, Sydney Sixers, and Perth Scorchers locked horns. The home team won the toss and elected to bat. After batting first, they amassed 155/9 at the end of their innings. For the team, Aaron Hardie scored 55 runs while others failed to score 30-plus runs. On the other hand, Jackson Bird was the best bowler for the former champions.

Meanwhile, during Sydney’s innings, Perth’s all-rounder Ashton Agar pulled off a stunner on the boundary. In the 18th over of the second innings, Jordan Silk tried to hoick the ball over deep midwicket. However, his timing wasn’t right and the ball was dying on Agar. At this point, the 2021 20-20 World Cup winner dove toward the ball and took a magnificent catch which might be one of the best catches of the tournament.

Talking about the game, in reply to the Orange Army’s 155/9, the three-time winners were bowled out for 117, losing the game by 38 runs. Jhye Richardson took four wickets in the game. After the game, he was adjudged the Player of the Match, he said “It’s really nice to be back home. Traditionally we’ve started the tournament quite slowly. And to get a win like this in front of a home crowd after not having been here for a couple of years feels great and these are the nights that we cherish forever. I definitely haven’t had as much prep as I would have liked. Missing out on some Shield games, not playing Marsh Cup.

“It was a bit of a race against time to get ready for the first game dealing with this heel niggle, but thankfully enough it got good enough back end of this week. So I’m very happy. With the pace of the wicket, hitting a hard length for as long as possible is key and keeping it simple. We spoke a lot about not necessarily how we’re gonna bowl but more our attitude in the field and I think the guys really supported the bowlers. We took all of our catches bar mine. We want to be the best fielding team so that’s how we’re going about it.”
