Former Australian women’s cricket team captain Meg Lanning has recently announced her retirement from international Cricket on 9 November. The 31-year-old captain called her decision to step away from international cricket a difficult one but she felt it was the right time to move on from Cricket.
Lanning also thanked her teammates, Cricket Victoria, Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers’ Association and her ardent fans who have constantly forwarded their support for the cricketer and her team. She announced her retirement from international cricket in a recent video, along with the media.
Meg Lanning has represented the Australian Women’s cricket team in 6 Tests, 103 ODIs and 132 T20Is with 345, 4602 and 3405 runs respectively. The top-order batter, Meg Lanning has also taken 4 wickets in her T20I career for Australia.

‘The decision to step away from international cricket was a difficult one’ – Meg Lanning
“The decision to step away from international cricket was a difficult one to make, but I feel now is the right time for me. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to enjoy a 13-year international career, but I know now is the right time for me to move on to something new,” said Meg Lanning in a recent video when she announced her retirement officially.
“Team success is why you play the game. I’m proud of what I have been able to achieve and will cherish the moments shared with teammates along the way”, she added.
While thanking all the people who have helped her in moving in her career, especially her teammates, family, friends and fans, Meg Lanning said, “I’d like to thank my family, my teammates, Cricket Victoria, Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers’ Association for their support to allow me to play the game I love at the highest level. I also want to say a huge thank you to all the fans who have supported me throughout my international career.”
