The sixth season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League kicked off yesterday when the defending champions, Chepauk Super Gillies faced Nellai Royal Kings on 23 June 2022. However, the current champions failed to start on a winning note after getting defeated by the Kings in a super over.

However, during the second innings of that match, some shocking incidents took place as the temperature between teams got risen up. While batting first, the Kings posted a total of 184 runs. But, while chasing that, Chepauk’s batter Jagadeeshan got out in a controversial way and that was the talk of the town in the match.

Mankad incident triggered emotions between players

In reply to that total of 184 runs, the Chepauk started the match with a flurry as their openers Jagadeesan and Kaushik Gandhi scored 35 for no from 3.4 overs. However, that was the moment when Baba Aparajith decided to Mankad Jagadeeshan as he had ventured out of his crease. The batter was fully angry as he showed the middle finger to the opposition. The video went viral quickly over social media platforms.

Speaking about the match, the Kings were in a spot of bother while batting first as they scored 27 runs by losing three wickets. Then, Suryaprakash (62 off 50 balls) and Sanjay Yadav (87* off 47 balls) helped them to put up a score of 184 runs by losing only four wickets. Both of them steered a partnership of 133 runs in 12 overs only. In reply, after having an explosive start during the chase, this Mankad incident took the wicket of Jagadeeshan.

After that, defending champions were struggling as they scored 156 runs for six wickets in 18 overs. But, it was a harish Kumar whose knock of 26* off 12 balls helped them to tie the match. However, in the super over Cheapuk managed to score only nine runs. Kings won the match as they chased down 10 runs easily with one ball to spare. Sanjay Yadav was the player of the match as he picked up two wickets also by conceding 27 runs in his four overs.
