Chennai’s torrid time in the Indian T20 League 2022 continues as they lost their fifth match of the tournament. They were playing against Gujarat in the 29th match of the Indian T20 League 2022, and both the teams fought it out till the last over. It was a thrilling match in which David Miller kept his calm and took his team home.

The men in yellow came into the match with a win in their last match and were hoping to carry forward their winning momentum. But a Miller special made Chennai miss out on their second victory of the tournament. Chennai batted first in the match and posted a total of 169 runs on the board. As Gujarat started their chase, they started losing wickets at regular intervals and were losing their way. But Miller was the lone warrior at the crease and was keeping the hopes in the chase alive.

A big chance to completely pocket the match went begging for Chennai in the 17th over of the match. Dwayne Bravo was bowling the over, as Miller was on strike. The left-hander tried to swat a slower from Bravo over the ropes but failed to time it properly. The ball went in the deep-midwicket area where Shivam Dube was fielding. But the fielder did not make an effort to catch the ball as he was obstructed by the floodlight. The half-heartedness in Dube’s attempt left Bravo visibly disappointed, skipper Ravindra Jadeja was about to throw his cap on the ground. He controlled his emotions but his disappointment was more than evident.

Dube’s lack of commitment at the stage proved costly for Chennai as Miller remained unbeaten on 94 from 51 deliveries and guided Gujarat to a 3-wicket win. This win saw the newly introduced franchise in this season at the top of the table, while the four-time champions lost their fifth out of six matches.

Jadeja’s disappointment with the turn of events was evident during the post-match presentation, where he said – “We started brilliantly. First six overs were good as a bowling unit, but credit goes to Miller, played some good cricket shots. When we were batting, wicket was gripping and ball was holding so we thought 169 was a par score.”
