Gujarat and Chennai locked horns in the 29th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the MCA Stadium in Pune. The two teams fought till the last over and gifted the fans with a thriller.

Gujarat was missing the service of their skipper, Hardik Pandya, in this match, as a result, Rashid Kahn was entrusted with the job. They won the toss and put Chennai in to bat. Chennai had a slow start to their innings and lost the man in-form Robin Uthappa early in the third over. Moeen Ali (1 off 3) also did not last long and was dismissed when Chennai’s score was 32 runs. At this stage, Ambati Rayudu walked out to bat and joined hands with Ruturaj Gaikwad in the middle. The duo staged an epic comeback with a partnership of 92 runs. Rayudu was dismissed in the 15th over of the innings for 46 runs off 31 deliveries. After his dismissal, Chennai lost a bit of momentum.

Pressure to score quickly got the better of Ruturaj, who got out trying to score quickly. He scored 73 runs off 48 deliveries hitting 5 sixes and 5 fours in his knock. Shivam Dube’s knock of 19 runs from 17 deliveries was the main reason Chennai probably fell 10 short of what they could have achieved. Jadeja’s brilliant little cameo of 22 runs from 12 deliveries helped Chennai reach a total of 169 runs in their 20 overs.

Gujarat was rocked early in their chase. Hardik Pandya’s absence in the middle order made the wicket of Shubman Gill a precious one. Mukesh Choudhary dismissed Gill in the very first over of the innings. This shook the Gujarat batting order from which they found it difficult to bounce back. Wickets kept tumbling after Gill’s departure and they were reduced to 48 for 4 in 8 overs. However, David Miller was going strong at the stage and was keeping the hopes of Gujarat alive. The fabled ‘Killer -Miller’ show was on as the southpaw completed his half century in 28 deliveries and started changing the momentum of the match. Gujarat was 108 for 5 down as the 15th over of the innings concluded. they required 62 runs from 5 overs and with David Miller going strong the hopes were still bright for the men in blue.

The acting captain, Rashid Khan played a brilliant little cameo of 4o runs off 21 deliveries. His efforts eased the pressure on Miller. Even after Rashid Khan was dismissed in the 19th over, Miller did not lose his focus. He took is team to victory in the final over scoring 94 runs off 51 deliveries. He hit 6 sixes and 8 fours and guided his team to a three wickets victory. Gujarat won their 5th match of the tournament and are now on top of the points table.
