Big Bash League is in the middle of a huge storm after it came to light that Tom Curran is facing a four-match ban. The incident had taken place on the 11th of December when Sydney Sixers took on Hobart Hurricanes in Tasmania.

English all-rounder Tom Curran was found to have been ‘intimidating’ the umpire during the warm-up. The matter has been under investigation for long and the decision was finally given on Thursday.

The entire scenario has now come to light after the official broadcasters of BBL have released the footage. For the first time in cricketing history, fans and experts alike have witnessed such a shocking episode.

Tom Curran’s run-in with umpire goes viral

Sydney Sixers player Tom Curran was getting ready to take on Hobart Hurricanes during the Big Bash League game on the 11th of December. Just as the players were getting ready for the game, Tom Curran too was going through the paces.

Watch the video below:

Like any fast bowler, the English player was trying to mark his run up and get accustomed to the ground. The only fault that Tom Curran committed was that he was running onto the actual wicket.

The umpire saw this and quickly took an exception to this and reprimanded the bowler. It was the duty of the official to make sure that the playing surface wasn’t disturbed. One can hear the official warning Tom Curran against running on the actual wicket.

Tom Curran was given a polite suggestion to practice beside the wicket but Tom Curran paid no heed. There was one more shock left to come as the pacer charged into his bowling rhythm despite the official blocking his path.

Visuals clearly show Tom Curran’s run-in with the official blocking his path. A last-minute change in direction made sure the situation did not get out of out. Sydney Sixers went on to win the game by 6 wickets with Tom Curran picking 3 wickets and scoring 5 runs.

Earlier on Thursday it was decided to ban Tom Curran for four games during the BBL 2023 season. It later came to light that Sydney Sixers were going to appeal the decision and they released a statement which read “Tom and the club maintain that Tom did not knowingly or intentionally intimidate a match official. On legal advice, we will exercise our right to appeal the decision”
