India Men’s Football Team are currently busy playing friendly matches in the Thong Nhat Stadium, Vietnam. However, they have played two matches so far against Singapore and Vietnam respectively. Results did not go in favour of the Men in Blue as one match ended in a draw while they lost the other.
But, on 27 September 2022, a historical moment came in the history of Indian Football. FIFA honoured the Indian skipper Sunil Chhetri. Meanwhile, he is the third highest scoring active men’s international. Now, the global Football Association shared a video on FIFA+ with the name ‘Captain Fantastic’.

Speaking of the post, FIFA also shared the news on Twitter with a caption. It read: “You know all about Ronaldo and Messi, now get the definitive story of the third highest scoring active men’s international. Sunil Chhetri | Captain Fantastic is available on FIFA+ now.” Among the active international footballers around the globe, the Indian skipper is in the third sport.
He has scored 84 goals so far in 129 matches for India. In the second spot, Argentina’s Lionel Messi sits with 86 goals in 162 matches. While Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo is in the top spot with 117 goals in 189 matches. Earlier this month, Sunil Chhetri won the Durand Cup 2022 for his club, Bengaluru FC. Now, he is playing in the ongoing friendlies in Vietnam. However, on 24 September, they took on Singapore. Sunil did not find the net but India managed a draw.
Singapore’s Ikhsan Fandi opened the scoring in the 37th minute. But, Ashique Kuruniyan came up with an equalizer in the 43rd minute for India. In the second match on 27 September 2022, India faced Vietnam. But, Vietnam thrashed the visitors by 3-0. In the 10th minute of the game, Phan Van Duc opened the scoring for Vietnam. Then, Nguyen Van Toan and Nguyen Van Quyet added two more goals in the 49th and 70th minute respectively.
