WATCH: Grace Harris hits extraordinary six with broken bat

Grace Harris of the Brisbane Heat women’s team performed an extraordinary feat during the match against Perth Scorchers women’s in the Women’s Big Bash League 2023. The power hitter hit a six off Piepa Cleary with a broken bat. She did so by saying the same to the commentators who were listening to her on the mic. As Harris realized her broken bat, she mentioned the same.

“Hey guys, I need a new bat!” said Harris. In Channel Seven’s commentary, a teammate asked Grace Harris if she needed a change of bat. “Do you need it now, Grace,” asked a teammate. Harris replied that she would change the bat later and hit a six with the same willow. “Nah, stuff it, I’ll still hit it,” said Harris. The confidence in Harris was visible.

But what happened was unbelievable. Harris made her claim a reality! She hit the 30-year-old’s back of a length delivery for a six over the long-on region. The bat was broken. But the commentators and the viewers were stunned. it was an exemplary display of power hitting from Harris. It comes just a day after Meg Lanning’s side was bundled out for 29 runs.

‘I knew we needed at least 180 on the wicket’ – Grace Harris

After the match, Brisbane Heat women went on to register a huge score of 229 runs, which is now a new record in the history of the Women’s BBL. Speaking about it, Harris said “North Sydney is always a great batting wicket. I believe it’s a very good ground for batters and a great size for myself so when I come here I just back myself in. There wasn’t too much overthinking out there today, so it was fantastic.”

Harris praised her teammate Minnie Du Preez for playing a good hand in the match. “Minnie (du Preez) took the game on and was great support; she was picking up boundaries at the same time, so I just said ‘Just keep going the way we’re going and see what happens’. I knew we needed at least 180 on the wicket because it’s a very flat deck,” added Harris.
