 Watch: Hampshire Hawks’ Celebration Got Cut Short As Umpire Signalled A Late No-Ball In The Final

On 16 July 2022, the stage was set for the T20 Blast final between Hampshire and Lancashire at Edgbaston in Birmingham. However, Hampshire Hawks came out as the winner of that match by one run after a thrilling finish. Speaking about the final over of the match, an unthinkable incident occurred when the last ball was bowled by Nathan Ellis.

Chasing a tricky target of 153 runs, Richard Gleeson and Tom Hartley were batting in the final over where Lancashire needed five runs off one ball only.  But, Ellis delivered a good yorker to shatter the furniture of Gleeson. Hampshire players also started celebrating after that. But, a surprising incident took place as the on-field umpire signalled that ball as a no-ball lately.

Speaking about the incident, Ellis bowled a fantastic yorker to take the wicket of Gleeson on the last ball and they ran into celebrations by thinking that they had won the tournament. Stumps were uprooted, and the fireworks had started blasting, but their celebrations were cut short as the umpire signalled a no ball.

The Hampshire players could not believe it as the umpire called back them again for bowling the last ball of the match again. Then, Lancashire needed three runs off one ball. But, Eliss kept his cool twice as he sealed a one-run thriller victory for Hamshire. The video got viral and got circulated quickly on Twitter.

Speaking about the match, Hampshire won the toss and opted to bat first. Ben McDermott was the lone warrior with his 62-run inning of 36 balls as they posted a total of 152 runs by losing eight wickets. In reply, after having a stable start, Lancashire experienced a batting collapse as they managed only 151 runs by losing eight wickets in 20 overs. Ben McDermott was the player of the match while his other opening partner, James Vince ended the tournament as the highest run scorer with 678 runs in 16 matches, at an average of 48.42.
