WATCH: Indian Team criticised for poor fielding standards in their Asia Cup 2023 clash against Nepal

India and Nepal are currently playing for the first time against each other, in an international match on 4 September, Monday at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy, Nepal has qualified for the first time for the Asia Cup. Both the teams have already played their first match of the group stage against Pakistan which for India unfortunately ended as a draw and Nepal as a loss.

The Indian cricket team won the toss and chose to bowl 1st to test their under-pressure bowling attacks. Even though the bowlers have delivered good bowling at appropriate lengths, the fielding standards of the Indian team do not seem up to the mark. In the initial 4.2 overs of the first innings, the Indian team dropped three Simple catches which left the spectators and commentators disappointed.

India’s dropped catches stint against Nepal

The first catch dropped came in the last ball of the first over of Mohammed Shami by Shreyas Iyer in the slip position of Nepal’s opening batsman  Kushal Bhurtel. The next drop came just in the next over, on the first ball of the second over of Mohammed Siraj as Virat Kohli dropped a simple catch as he fumbled at the covers.

The third one came by the wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan who was keeping the wickets in the fifth over which was being delivered by Mohammed Shami,  while giving Kushal Bhurtel another lifeline in the game. The series of catch drops is being highly criticised by the fans as they wonder about the team fielding standards ahead of the marquee ODI, World Cup, 2023 which will be held across 10 venues in India.

At the toss, Nepal cricket team’s captain Rohit Paudel said, “Today is the biggest day for Nepal cricket. Great opportunity for us.” While Rohit Sharma said, “We batted in the last game. We want to see what the bowlers have in offer for us. I don’t know about the weather. We just want to have the bowlers to have a game under their belt. The way we batted under pressure, Hardik and Ishan batted brilliantly. Ishan showed a lot of maturity and took the game on as well. Good signs for us. It’s another important game for us.”
