WATCH: Kane Williamson gets run-out for first time in 12 years in Test match against Australia
The star of New Zealand, Kane Williamson, was sent out on the second day of the first Test match against Australia after a horrific collision with teammate Will Young. Williamson was run out for the first time in 12 years in Test cricket when the two collided at mid-pitch while he was trying to quickly start his account. The odd sacking of the former Kiwi captain, who has been in incredible form, has left his team in a precarious situation.
The event took place in Mitchell Starc’s fifth over. Williamson was summoned to the crease by opener Tom Latham’s leg before wicket dismissal on the second final delivery of the fifth over. The seasoned right-hander struck the ball towards mid-off on the last delivery of the over, resulting in a dangerous single. Young, his teammate on the other end, was slow to react and went the wrong way, which led to a collision.
It didn’t take long for Marnes Labuschagne to retrieve the ball and hit it straight to Williamson before the non-striker could get to the crease. The star batter was shocked that his attempt to give the squad a strong start had been foiled. The SEN Cricket analyst Daniel McHardy, who leads the commentary team, expressed disbelief at the developments as well.

On Day 2, New Zealand got bowled out
Josh Hazlewood removed youthful star Rachin Ravindra for a three-ball duck shortly after the sad loss of Williamson. Young and Darryl Mitchell attempted to work together, however they were unable to score many runs during their 20-over+ stint at the wicket. After the two were dismissed in rapid succession, New Zealand was saved from severe humiliation by the comebacks of Glenn Phillips (71 off 70 balls) and Tom Blundell (33 off 43 balls).
Australia’s batting innings saw Matt Henry shine with a fifer, and he made a useful cameo of 42 from 34 balls to help the team reach 179/10. Nathan Lyon, an off-spinner, claimed four wickets, while Hazlewood claimed two. Earlier, Australia amassed 383 runs thanks to a spectacular 174 off 275 balls by Cameron Green.
