Legendary India batter Sachin Tendulkar joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the stone-laying ceremony at the International Cricket Stadium in Varanasi. Sachin was accompanied by the 1983 World Cup-winning team, Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah, and others.

In the ceremony, Sachin Tendulkar felicitated Prime Minister Modi with a brand-new India jersey. It was a tricolour-striped jersey, which the Indian team is set to don in the upcoming ODI World Cup. The shirt number 1 had Namo written behind it. As soon as Sachin felicitated the PM, the video went viral on social media.

It’s worth noting that Varanasi is the Prime Minister’s Lok Sabha constituency. As he reached there to attend the various programmes, he said that the construction of the stadium would be beneficial for local people. “The sportspeople here will benefit from the construction of an international stadium in Kashi. This stadium will become the star of the Purvanchal region,” PM

The essence of Kashi will be visible in the new stadium

It’s worth noting that the construction is being done with the collaboration of the Uttar Pradesh government and the Indian Cricket Board. The Yogi Adityanath-led UP government will spend around INR 121 crore to construct the ground, while the Indian Cricket Board will spend around INR 300 crore to develop the facilities. The state government has revealed that the essence of Kashi will be visible in the stadium.

The stadium’s architectural design draws inspiration from Lord Shiva, incorporating distinctive elements such as crescent-shaped roof canopies, floodlights reminiscent of tridents, seating arrangements mirroring ghat steps, and metallic sheets adorning the facade in the shape of Bilvipatra. This meticulously planned stadium has a seating capacity to host up to 30,000 spectators. During the event, other legendary players like Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, Venkatesh Prasad, and Roger Binny were present.
