The 2023 ODI World Cup began on Thursday in Ahmedabad. The first game of the tournament being played at Narendra Modi Stadium turned out to be a damp squib. The huge stadium saw a smattering of fans come and watch the opening game.

What was supposed to kick start a huge tournament, the no-show from fans set tongues wagging. One cricket fan who had made his way to the ground grabbed a video of the apathy that awaited the fans.

New Zealand and England kicked off the 2023 ODI World Cup with a blockbuster game. Tom Latham won the toss and chose to bowl first on a very hot afternoon in Ahmedabad. Ben Stokes, Kane Williamson, and Tim Southee were some of the big names who missed the game.

Lack of crowd and pathetic management kicks off the 2023 ODI World Cup –

One cricket fan had made his way to the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium on Thursday. The fan in question posted a short video of the conditions prevalent in the stadium. During the course of the 28-second video, one can see the dirty seats and dirty stands on the ground.

The frustrated fan goes on to explain how the seats and the entire stand are dust-filled. This will not sit down well with the fans considering India has the richest cricket board in the world.

Another missing feature was the lack of crowd support for the game on Thursday. One expects India to be the hotbed of crazy cricket but it was a different story altogether when the teams made their way to the ground.

Speaking about the game, England scored 282/ 9 thanks to Joe Root’s 77 and Jos Buttler’s 43. For the first time in ODI Cricket history, every batter had managed to get into double digits. Joe Root played some delightful shots before he was dismissed and bowled by Glenn Phillips while attempting a reverse sweep.

Chasing 283 to win, New Zealand lost opener Will Young for a duck. That sadly was the only joy the English bowlers had. Devon Conway scored a superb century to kick off the tournament. Rachin Ravindra joined in the fray as the youngster scored his first ODI century for the Kiwis.
