India and South Africa locked horns in the second One Day International of the three-match series in Ranchi. India got off to a good start, picking a couple of wickets inside the first 10 overs. But half-centuries from Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram powered the Proteas to 278/7 in their 50 overs.

For India, it was Mohammed Siraj who led the pace attack as he finished with figures of 3/38 in his 10 overs. While the right-arm pacer had a memorable outing on the field with the ball, his clumsiness cost India four runs in the 48th over of the innings.

After beating the batter, Siraj collected the ball as wicketkeeper Sanju Samson threw it back to him. Seeing David Miller out of his crease at the non-striker’s end, Siraj had a shy at the stumps missing them completely.

With no one backing up for the throw, India conceded 4 extra runs. However, later the seamer was seen having a word with the umpire as if to suggest they should consider the ball dead after the delivery was completed.

Coming back to the match, India ended up winning the game by seven wickets levelling the series 1-1.  After losing their openers early with the score of 48 Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer took it upon themselves to rebuild the Indian innings.

Kishan looked in fine form as he consistently found boundaries throughout his innings. He came really close to scoring his first-ever hundred in international cricket but fell just seven runs short of the milestone as India lost their third wicket at 209. He departed after scoring a well-made 93 off 84 balls with the help of four fours and seven towering sixes.

On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer completed his second ODI hundred in the 43rd over of the innings. He remained unbeaten on 113 off 111 balls with the help of 15 boundaries. Kishan and Iyer were involved in a 161-run-partnership for the third wicket which helped their side reach the target with 25 balls remaining in the innings. The two teams will now face each other in the third ODI on Tuesday at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.
