WATCH: MS Dhoni recreates 2011 World Cup-winning six in the practice session of Indian T20 League
On April 2, the Indian Cricket fraternity celebrated the 12th anniversary of their 2011 World Cup final, which came against Asian champions Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in which former India skipper MS Dhoni played an unbeaten knock of 91 runs, which included a match-winning six as well.
Meanwhile, the Chennai franchise tweeted a magnificent image of Dhoni recreating that unforgettable moment during a practice session to mark the historic occasion. While chasing a target of 275 runs, Men in Blue lost their openers Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar early in the innings.
Both of the wickets were taken by Lasith Malinga. Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli added 83 runs to their partnership as they tried to hold the attack until the latter was bowled by Tillakaratne Dilshan. Gambhir and Dhoni then worked together for an incredible century partnership to take India to the verge of a historic victory but sadly fell short by a well-deserved hundred.
On Saturday, the day before that historic victory, Chennai tweeted a video of Dhoni practicing his World Cup six from 2011 for the next Indian T20 League 2023 game. The video also included pictures from that match in Mumbai with the caption “When nostalgia hits!”

Indian T20 League 2023 returns to home and away format
Dhoni finished the match in the 49th over by sending the fuller delivery from Nuwan Kulasekara for a six over long-on and after the victory, the most famous line in history came from commentator Ravi Shastri, “Dhoni finishes off in style.”
A spectacular six over a deep square leg by Dhoni on Friday during the Indian T20 League 2023 season opener against the defending champion Gujarat franchise sent the Ahmedabad crowd into an uproar. He finished with a seven-ball 14 runs , however, the team struggled to get off to a successful start, dropping their fourth straight Indian T20 League match – three of which occurred last season.
The Chennai franchise will play their second game of the cash-rich league on Monday, April 3 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, in Chennai. They will play at their home ground after a long gap of four years as Indian T20 League 2023 returns to home and away format.
