Former India skipper MS Dhoni recently inaugurated the MS Dhoni Global School in association with his Indian T20 League team, Chennai. After inaugurating the school, he interacted with the hundreds of kids present in the ceremony. During an interaction, Dhoni revealed that his cricketing idol during his school days was none other than Sachin Tendulkar. The former also touched upon the desire he had to play like Tendulkar.

“As a cricketing role model, it has always been Sachin Tendulkar. I was exactly like you guys, I used to watch Sachin Tendulkar play and always thought that I want to play like him. Later on I realised that I can’t play like but in my heart I always wanted to play like him. He was a cricketing idol growing up,” said Dhoni.

Notably, the Ranchi player went onto play with Sachin when he made his international debut in 2004. Both players were batting together when the latter scored his first double hundred in ODI cricket on February 24, 2010. That game was played against South Africa. Also, not to forget, Tendulkar was the first player to score a double hundred in ODI cricket. A year later, both players were part of the 2011 World Cup winning team.

Fans remember Dhoni finishing off the final with a six over long-on. Both players played together till Sachin retired from international cricket in November 2013. At that time, Dhoni was leading the India across all formats of the game. Talking about the wicketkeeper batter, he retired from the international cricket in August 2020.

However, he continues to play for Chennai in the Indian T20 League. This year, he left the captaincy of the team only to lead the team after the first seven games. The right-hander has announced that he wants to play his last game in the cash-rich league in front of the Chennai crowds. His wish might be fulfilled next year as the tournament will reportedly return to the home and away format.
