Watch: Pathum Nissanka loses his shoes and falls over while playing a scoop shot against UAE
Pathum Nissanka helped Sri Lanka not get eliminated in the first round of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 on the back of a blistering knock on Tuesday against UAE. Opening the innings for the team, he played a sensational knock of 74 runs in 60 balls, including 6 fours and 2 sixes.
Wickets kept falling at the other end but the Sri Lanka opener held firm and guided Sri Lanka to a respectable score of 152 runs at the end of the first innings. Nissanka played some outstanding shots through the course of his innings but the one played in the 18th over has been going viral all over the internet.
On the first delivery of the over, Nissanka moved across to his right to guide the ball square on the leg-side. However, Zahoor Khan bowled the delivery way outside the off stump and also took the pace away. Despite that, Nissanka waited for the ball to come to him and still managed to pull the ball over backward square leg fielder for a four.
While playing the shot, he lost his balance and also lost his shoes before falling on the ground. The fans came up with their own version for that shot. Some called it as ‘Shaktiman Shot, while others referred to it as, “Joota Khol Shot.”

Nissanka’s innings was pivotal to Sri Lanka’s win in the match. Apart from the top three batters, all the other batters got out on single-digit scores. Dhanajaya de Silva amassed 33 runs in 21 balls, including 3 fours and 1 six.
In reply, UAE got bundled out for just 73 runs as Sri Lanka won the game by 79 runs. Wanindu Hasaranga starred with the ball for Sri Lanka as he picked three wickets for just 8 runs in 4 overs. D Chameera also made great returns of 3 for 15 in his quota of overs.
