Watch: Rest of India players congratulate uncapped India player as he gets selected for the ODIs against South Africa
Getting a national call-up is every player’s dream playing cricket in their country at any level. The hopes go up more when they reach the state level. The same has happened with Bengal pacer Mukesh Kumar. He has gotten his maiden call for the ODI series between India and South Africa. Notably, he came to know about this from his Rest of India teammates.
The team is currently playing the Irani Cup game against Sourashtra. In a video that is going viral on social media, Kumar came to know about this development in a different manner. The players were traveling in a team bus when one of the players informed the right-arm pacer about his call-up. One of them stood up alongside Mukesh and recite a web-series dialogue.
In the video, the players were heard saying “Hey Vinod! Haa bhaiya? Pata hain na tum Indian team me select hue? Haa bhaiya”, after which everyone burst out in laughter. The video ended with all them cheering for Mukesh Kumar collectively, “Three cheers for Mukesh, Hip Hip Hurray, Hip Hip Hurray, Hip Hip Hurray”.

Talking about Mukesh, he recently picked a five-wicket in an unofficial ODI game against New Zealand. He has played 30 First Class games, 18 List A, and 17 T20s. In his career, he has 109, 17, and 19 wickets respectively.
In an interview, he said “I got very emotional. It was all blur. I could only remember my father late Kashi Nath Singh’s face. My father, till I played Ranji Trophy for Bengal did not think I am good enough to do well professionally. Unko Shaq thaa ki main kaabil hoon bhi ya nahi (He doubted whether I was good enough or not),” Mukesh was quoted as saying.
“Today my mom had tears in her eyes. She was so emotional. Everyone at home started crying. Mujhe ground se dekhne se zyada meri mummy mujhe kaamyab dekhna pasand karenge. (More than watching me from the ground, my mother would like to see me become successful.),” the bowler concluded.
