Watch: Rishabh Pant hugs Suryakumar Yadav after latter’s second T20I hundred

Suryakumar Yadav scored his second T20I hundred in the recently-concluded T20I against New Zealand. He carried on the good form with the bat from the 20-20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. In the tournament, he scored around 250 runs in six games. Meanwhile, his innings helped the team reach 191/6. After 15 overs, the Men In Blue had only managed 115 runs. At this stage, Yadav was batting on 49.

In the last five overs, he scored 61 runs to take his team to a competitive total. After the innings, the right-hander spoke to the broadcaster and revealed that he was looking to stay till the end. He added that how it was important for him to maximize the last few overs.

“In T20, a hundred is always special but at the same time, it was really important for me to bat till the very end. Hardik was telling me to bat till the 18th or 19th over, and get to a score of 185 or so. After the end of the 16th over, we had a chat about taking it deep. It was important to maximise the last few overs. Have been doing the same things over and over again, in the nets and it’s just coming off for me.”

During the discussion, Pant walked in from behind and hugged Suryakumar and after the interview ended he was heard saying, “This is unbelievable innings”.

Talking about the game, India beat New Zealand by 65 runs. In reply to India’s total, the Kiwis managed to score only 126 all-out. Notably, part-timer Deepak Hooda took four wickets while Mohammed Siraj and Yuzvendra Chahal took two each. With this win, the visitors have taken an unassailable lead of 1-0 in the series with only one game left. The first game on November 18 was washed out. The last game of the series will be played on November 22. After this, both teams will play a three-match ODI series starting on November 25 and concluding on the 30th.
