Watch: Saqlain Mushtaq’s Harsh Answer To Journalist After Being Questioned About Pakistan’s Fragile ‘Middle-order’
On 23 September 2022, Pakistan took on England in Karachi for the third match of the seven-match T20I series. Coming to this match, both teams won one game each in the series. However, Pakistan did not manage to win the match as they lost by 63 runs. While chasing 222 runs, Pakistan middle-order batters failed again miserably.
Then, during the post-match presentation, Pakistan’s head coach, Saqlain Mushtaq face the journalists. One of them raised questions about the continuous failure of those middle-order batters. But, in response to that, he came up with a harsh answer as the video went viral.
Here is the shared video:

“By talking about the middle order so frequently, you are influencing our minds.” – Saqlain Mushtaq
During that post-match conference, Saqlain said that players’ mids are getting influenced by talking about the middle order so frequently. He said: “This is the middle order of the Pakistani team. It is ours and we have to support it. By talking about the middle order so frequently, you are influencing our minds. By frequently referring to the middle order, you are undermining the players’ confidence in this manner.”
He also added that winning or losing is just a part of the game. Former Pakistan spinner also compared that with some references of seasons. “Day and night, summer and winter, rains.. they are all-natural. Just like that, sport is also the same. Win and loss will be there. We need to accept it, and we do. It’s natural, what can we do? Yes, everyone wants to win. Fans want, you all want, all those who are from Pakistan want us to win. But again, day and night, life and death, it’s all-natural. What we have is intent, rest we can only pray.” Saqlain Mushtaq said.
Speaking about the match, England batted first and they scored 221 runs for three wickets in 20 overs. In response, Pakistan managed only 158 runs for eight wickets in 20 overs. Middle-order batters of the home side managed only 119 runs off 89 balls while chasing that mammoth total. Harry Brook won the player of the match award for scoring 81* runs off 35 balls.
