WATCH: Sarfaraz Khan’s father thanks Indian Cricket Board for his Test call up 

Team India suffered two major blows after all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and middle-order batter KL Rahul were ruled off the second Test due to injury. The men’s selection committee has added Sarfaraz Khan, Sourabh Kumar and Washington Sundar to India’s squad for the second Test.

From countless hours on domestic pitches to the national call-up, a dream was realized for Sarfraz and their family. His father thanked the Indian Cricket Board for their faith and belief in his son.

Sarfaraz has been in great form recently, smashing a phenomenal century against England Lions in a tour game for India A, scoring 161 runs off 160 balls, smashing 18 boundaries and five sixes.  ‘Player of the Match’  was given to Sarfaraz Khan as India A beat England Lions by an innings and 16 runs in Ahmedabad.

The 26-year-old, who has a first-class average of 69.85, has scored 3692 runs in just in only 63 innings in 43 red ball matches. Sarfaraz has the highest score of 301* in first-class cricket. He has a great Ranji record under his belt too. Sarfaraz has an average of 81.13 among the active players and is best for a batter who has played over 25 matches.

“Sarafaraz’s name was doing rounds for quite some time and finally he has been given the chance. He has been scoring runs and got a well-deserved call-up. He needs to grab the opportunity with both hands. If he is not able to perform, he will have to make way for Virat Kohli when King  Kohli returns.” Veteran off-spinner of India, Harbhajan Singh said this on his YouTube channel.
