Kane Williamson surpassed Ross Taylor as the highest run-scorer for New Zealand in Tests

Although England still has an upper hand on the game, the former Kiwis’ skipper Kane Williamson will remember this test for the rest of his life. Williamson surpassed Ross Taylor’s record for being the highest run-scoring New Zealander in Tests with 7683 runs. Williamson got to the landmark after hitting English pacer James Anderson for a boundary towards the mid-wicket to get going for the day.

Speaking of the match, New Zealand won the toss and decided to field first. However, the English batters posted a huge score of 435/8 before declaring their innings. Harry Brook’s 186 runs off 176 balls and Joe Root’s unbeaten 153 runs off 224 balls were the key contributions that helped England get to a massive first-innings total.

In reply, the Black Caps were bowled out for 209 inside 54 overs. Skipper Tim Southee’s fighting knock of 73 off just 49 deliveries was vital for the Kiwis who were forced to follow on. This time, however, it was a different story altogether. Openers Tom Latham and Devon Conway, both scored half-centuries to set the foundation for the Kiwis. Kane Williamson, in at number 3, scored a memorable century whereas Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell scored fifties to post a strong middle-order performance. They reached 483 asking England to score a tricky 258 runs in the final innings. England are batting at 48/1 at stumps on Day 4, assuring an exciting final Day.
