Watch: Shreyas Iyer ‘steps on’ stumps in second T20I against New Zealand
Recently, India all-rounder Hardik Pandya stepped on the stumps during the semifinal of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 against England. On the last ball of the innings, the right-hander tried a pull shot but his leg touched the stumps and the bails came off. Less than a few days after that, his teammate, Shreyas Iyer is done the same.
In the ongoing game against New Zealand, the right-hander tried to play a flick shot. He was facing Lockie Ferguson in the 13th over of the game. While playing towards square leg, the Mumbaikar stepped on the stumps, cutting his innings short. Notably, he last played a T20I game on the tour of England in July this year. Since then, he played a few ODIs but hasn’t played T20Is.
The main reason was because of his shortcoming against the short ball from the pacers.

Meanwhile, in the ongoing game, he got out after scoring 13 runs. On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav has scored his second T20I hundred. His innings have helped the team reach a competitive total of 191/6. At one stage, the team was tottering at 129/3 in 16 overs. Yadav scored 17, 18, and 22 runs in the 17th, 18th, and 19th overs respectively. After 19 overs, the team was set to get over 200 runs. However, Tim Southee’s hat trick didn’t let that happen.
At the time of writing, the home team needed 192 runs to win in 20 overs. After the innings, Yadav said ‘In T20 cricket a hundred was really special, but it was also important for me to bat till the end, Hardik told me. We needed a score of 190-195 and happy we got there. We had a word in the 16th over that we wanted to take it deep with only Hooda and Washington to follow. I’ve been doing the same thing in the nets and all practice sessions. We can also hear Rishabh Pant say “unbelievable” in Suryakumar’s ear after he finishes that interview. We are all Rishabh Pant. Himanshu will bring the chase to you’
