Watch: Shreyas Iyer survives against Bangladesh as bails ‘refuse’ to leave the groove
India’s middle-order batter, Shreyas Iyer has been a dependable player in the ongoing first Test against Bangladesh so far. He came out to bat when the team lost four wickets for 112 runs. At this stage, he stitched a partnership of 149 runs with Cheteshwar Pujara (90) who missed out on his hundred. Meanwhile, during Iyer’s innings, an unprecedented incident happened in the 84th over of the innings.
Apparently, in the over bowled by Ebadot Hussain, the right-hander missed the ball as it stayed low after jagging back in. However, much to the surprise of the players on the field, one of the bails moved a bit but didn’t dislodge completely. Apparently, the ball kissed the off-stump and looked like the bail, standing on the middle and leg stumps moved. However, after moving a bit, it stayed on the groove.

Meanwhile, Iyer is not out on 82 and is set to get his second Test tom. He scored his maiden Test in the game against New Zealand last year. On the other hand, Pujara is still waiting on the Test ton since January 2019. Since then, he has come close a few times but hasn’t gotten to his hundred. Notably, that hundred came in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which India won for the first time in Australia.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli, who is yet to score a hundred in red ball since November 2019, has to wait for a little for his ton. He was trapped lbw by Taijul Islam after scoring only one run. The latter has been the most successful bowler with three wickets and bowled 30 overs in the day. Talking about India’s batting, they have amassed 278/6 before the stumps were called after Axar Patel’s wicket on the last ball of the 90th over.
