WATCH: VAR intervention disallows goal during Carabao Cup final, Liverpool win against Chelsea
The final match of the Carabao Cup 2023-24 between Liverpool and Chelsea was riddled with multiple controversies. One of the first controversies was the Liverpool fans booing the national anthem of England ‘GOD SAVE THE KING’. The supporters of the club have been following this tradition since the Hillsborough tragedy in 1989. During the incident, 97 people were killed and it is believed that the city had been abandoned by the British establishment.
Apart from this, in the 60th minute of the game, Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool scored but the VAR intervention ruled it off-side. However, the fans don’t believe this ruling and call it a howler. Before this, two players, Ben Chilwell (Chelsea) and Conor Bradley (Liverpool) were shown red cards each as they had an ugly fight with each other in the injury time of the first half.

After the full-time ended with the score of 0-0, both teams went into extra time to ensure that the game had a clear winner.
