I am keen to help him grow: Virat Kohli
After the first delivery from Umesh Yadav, who was bowling that over, Kohli was spotted making fun of the young batsman while seated in the slips. Australia batted first in the game, scoring 469 runs in their first inning. India’s first-innings response saw them get bowled out for 296 runs, giving Australia a lead of 173 runs. Both Kohli and Gill entered this matchup having helped their respective teams to successful IPL seasons. However, they were unable to maintain this form as Gill and the former captain were both out after only 13 and 14 runs, respectively.
Every fan is aware of the connection these batters share, though. Prior to this match, Kohli was praising the young batter and expressing his desire to support him in the future.
“What I know, he has told me that he has looked up to my career when I was coming up the ranks, he speaks to me a lot about the game and I am keen to help him grow. All these tags of King and Prince are great for the public but the job of any senior cricketer is to help any youngster groom youngsters and give them insight that you have experienced throughout your career, so that they can manage their ups and downs. He is a lovely kid, he is playing amazingly well and I wish he continues that in this (ongoing Test match) as well.” Kohli said about Gill.
